Curriculum 2

The NHS Management and Leadership National Curriculum forms part of the wider NHS Leadership and Management Framework. It is a specialist resource created for those responsible for shaping NHS‑funded leadership and management development, including commissioners, designers and deliverers of training. This is a critical resource for external training providers, designers and academic institutions as well as internal NHS organisational development and learning and development teams seeking a credible, robust framework to underpin their programmes and alignment to the new standards and competencies applicable to all leaders and managers in the NHS.

Developed in partnership with sector experts, including the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the curriculum has been rigorously tested with training providers and academic specialists to ensure it is both evidence‑based and practical for NHS leaders and managers. It has been structured and aligned in response to early stakeholder feedback, making it easier to navigate and ensuring full alignment with the new leadership and management standards and competencies. This provides a consistent, reliable foundation for building leadership and management capability across the NHS.

This is a specialist resource and is not intended for use by staff accessing the framework for self-assessment or development, patients or the general public.
